Expeditions
Renowned for his outstanding proficiency and professionalism in rope access techniques together with several complementary skills, Access and Aerial founder Mike Roberts has been called upon to manage the rope access and safety of international expeditions for teams wishing to explore hard-to-reach areas of the world.
Examples include an expedition to China on a mission to access, explore, survey, map, measure and photograph some of Sichuan's enormous 'super-caves', as documented by National Geographic. Mike took a pivotal role in enabling explorers such as Andy Eavis and Richard 'Roo' Walters and photographers Carsten Peter and Mark Burkey to reach remote tunnels, assist with placing surveying and photographic equipment, including lead climbing to the top of the largest subterranean rock bridge in the world, and contributing with the 3D mapping and measurement of Miao Room, the largest cave chamber in the world (by volume), together with other passages including the 6 million cubic metre Funnel of Light (Yuan-guang) chamber involving a 260 metre free-hanging abseil.
Mike also journeyed to the deserts of Oman to build an exciting Via Ferrata course at Jabal Akhdar in the Al Hajar Mountains as well as help a team to explore and measure the huge Majlis al Jinn cave, accessed by another monstrous (170m) free hanging abseil, and reconnoitre it for tourism potential.
With a mountaineering, caving and rock climbing background, and highly qualified in Rope Access, Mike is always keen to take adventurous opportunities and contribute to the success of expedition teams' objectives.
